Hola! Yo soy Michaelah

I am currently a senior at the University of Florida, majoring in both Criminology and Psychology. I enjoy spending time abroad and delving into the field of law. After studying abroad in Valencia, Spain during the Summer of 2022, I understood the importance of living in another country and fully immersing myself in their culture and language. Shortly after graduation, I aim to acquire my Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited Law School. My areas of interest include: women's issues, immigration, wrongful convictions, and criminal law. I am open to gaining experiential learning and advocacy experience in public interest areas and legislation to further broaden my knowledge concerning the laws that govern us and increase my ability to be an advocate for others. I am currently based in Washington, D.C. as an Administrative / Legislative Intern for the U.S. House of Representatives, continuing my efforts of hands on advocacy.

EXPERTISE

Jerkfest 2023

Collaborative General Body Meeting : HSAxJAMSAxClubCreole

Lecture: Francisco Paulino Hermenegildo Teódulo Franco Bahamonde

Jerkfest is an annual celebration held on Flavet Field by the Jamaican American Student Association. This event consists of an immersive experience within Jamaican's culture, including exposure to reggae music, cultural performances, authentic jerk food, and a festival celebration.

Collaborating with organizations such as BSU, CaribSA, ASU, and JAMSA on UF's campus enabled communities of individuals from various cultural backgrounds to experience a cultural explosion! This informative meeting involved games and the oppotrunity to gain an insight into different cultural topics, and aided in the dispersing of ethnic knowledge and awareness!

The various lectures attended and presented while in courses abroad allowed members of my study abroad cohort to remain knowledgable on integral aspects of Spain's culture, such as their prior dictatorship to the simple history of their famous practice: siestas.
